Business from the Professor's perspective

It was a moment I cannot let it pass and I must have it written down.

I was watching an interview with Professor Su from Jiangtong University on ChannelNewsAsia. I thought he made good sense when asked how one can prosper in a place like China. As much as new markets are welcome, China being very cosmopolitan has nearly all kinds of trade one can possibly imagine. For a small business to compete with the big players, one has to find a 'secret door' that can only be discovered with the heart and not the eyes. From a practical point on how one discover that 'secret door', he gave the example of Wenzhou people. They are vibrant and full of vitality. That sustained enthusiasm stems from their culture in that they are hardworking, frugal and willing to endure hardships. Professor Su who had met the Wenzhou people joked with them that if they were to take a plane to Europe, they would take the standing space instead of the seats and this goes to show how frugal they are.

Another point that was brought up on their successes was that they know how to lower cost of production and improve efficiencies. They can even bring the cost of a pencil to near zero cost and this example clearly illustrates Wenzhou's people business acumen.

I was quite inspired by the interview. For that, I will continue to seek the 'secret door' to wealth. Hahahh......:)
